Teaching Reading( outside classroom)


            English is the main language of the world.There are 4 important skills for learning English of students. One of them is reading skill, so everyone need to be able to read book, documents, computers, mobile devices, signs or billboards. Reading helps students to learn and acquire English. We can divide reading into extensive reading and intensive reading, moreover; there are other activities such as: reading activities, responding to a text, read more comprehension, and etc. for practice reading skill of students.
          First, Extensive reading is a reading as much as possible by without dictionary. This lets you get more complex sentences with ease, reinforces the words you already know and helps you learn new words from context .(Julian Bamford and Richard R. Day)
          Second, the intensive reading activities include skimming a text for specific information to answer true or false statements or filling gaps in a summary, scanning a text to match headings to paragraphs, and scanning jumbled paragraphs and then reading them carefully to put them onto the correct order. We often get students to read intensively in class. This means that they will look at a short reading text and do various exercise based on it, moreover; reading activities that we can ask students to do almost anything with a reading text. Here are some of the most common activities. They designed so that the students get a general understanding of the text first, for instance; when students read about the text and we can ask them why or what they agree with or disagreed with. We can divide the students into group of three (or more) and doing for JIGSAW READING activities.
           Next, responding to a text. Before teachers give questions to students, they have to read a text because they have to know about details in a text. When they know, we can ask them to respond to it in various ways. They may answer the questions or discuss whether they liked the text or not.
          Finally, Activities for practice reading skill is Follow-up task. We can follow-up task by using topic of the text or exploring some of the language in it, for instance: students can discuss any issues that were in the text. Next, students can role play from a situation leading from the text, therefore; we can follow-up tasks by use questions, discuss, role play, research, rewrite, and etc.

          To sum up, reading necessary skill for learners. If you read more it can develop your reading skill. There are 2 kinds of reading and other activities for practice reading skill of learner. Reading helps students to learn and acquire English.

Learning log (Inside classroom)


                     On 21st July 2014, this class, in classroom there are various kind of presentation group: assessment and testing, teaching listening, teaching reading and teaching writing. All of presentations are very important information and technique for teacher
            First, they presented about assessment and testing. There are 8 types of assessment: formative, summative, informal, diagnostic, placement, progress, achievement and proficiency. Next, type of test item. There are 2 types of test item is direct test item and indirect item. Direct test items have 4skill: speaking, listening, reading and writing. An indirect test items have 8 kinds: gap fills, cloze, multiple choice, true/false, jumbled sentence, sentence transformation, proofreading and matching. Finally, rubric is a multi-purpose scoring guide for assessing student products and performances. This tool work in a number of different to advance student learning
Second, teaching listening provides the aural input that serves as the basis for language acquisition and enables learners to interact in spoken communication. It can be divided into three main stages, pre-listening, while listening, and post-listening. Teaching listening has 2 styles: listening diphthong and listening comprehension.
Third, teaching reading also helps students to learn and get English. There are two skills: extensive reading and intensive reading. Extensive reading is reading as much as possible for your own pleasure at a difficultly level at which you can read smoothly and quickly without looking up words or translating to English as you go. Next, Intensive reading occurs when the learner is focused on the language rather than the text.
Fourth, teaching writing, there are five steps of writing process. First, pre-writing/planning (thinking what we are going to write). Second, drafting (create all their ideas and detail to write). Third, Editing (check the mistake of writing work). Forth, revising (to look at or consider again and idea, price of writing, etc in order to correct or improve it). Lastly, publishing (final version). Encourage writing, it make student comfortable and enjoy writing.        

Hence, all the presentations about assessment and testing, teaching listening, teaching reading and teaching writing are good information and technique for everybody to use this knowledge in the real life.

Teaching Speaking (outside classroom)

Teaching Speaking
        Most of people feel that speaking in new language is very difficult. When you are speaking you can’t edit what you say as you can if you writing.
        The principle for teaching speaking is we should realize of the differences between second language and foreign language learning contexts. In outside the classroom, the students have very few opportunities to use the target language. We should give students to practice with both fluency and accuracy. Teacher should make group or pair for student to practice talking. Next, teacher plan speaking tasks that involve negotiation for meaning and finally, design classroom activities that concern guidance and practice in both transactional and interactional speaking.

        There are a lot of activities for practice speaking. For example, information gap, interview the picture, turning on the inner voice, etc. However, we should in appropriate level of students.

Learning inside classroom

     For this week, in the class has presentation about becalming speaking and becalming with technology. There are more good information, method and content.
      The first group, they talk about becalming speaking by use information gap, jigsaw activities, building the speaking eat, telling stories, making oral presentations, simulation and role-play. All the activities can help students to do in real situations.
      Second group, they talk about teaching with technology. Teaching with technology can help teachers and student to learn more and use real materials. Moreover, if they use real material they can learn more and remember well. In the present have more technology help teacher to teach student like e-learning, blogger, facebook, line, tine, twitter and CAI.
      Conclusion, I think that presentation of two groups is good but first group cannot describe the detail of their responsibility. In contrast, group two can describe the detail more than group one.

Leaning log (Inside Classroom)

        In class on 1st July 2014, I leaned about meaning, principle and teaching methods.
There are three kinds of method for teaching English: Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), Content-Based Instruction (CBI) and Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) Moreover, I leaned about lesson plan too
       The first method is Communicative language teaching this method has principles to follow like mak real communicating (listening, writing, reading, and speaking) the learner to experiment and try out provide opportunities for learner to experiment and try out what they know. Therefore, this method make student induce or discover grammar relay and develop both accuracy and fluency
       The second method is Content-Based Instruction (CBI) CBI lesson are design by content that students have to learn and ability of students.
      The third method is task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) this method use of task of the core unit of planning and instruction in language. Moreover, a task is an activity or goal that is carried out using language. Hence, the main points of TBLT like process, communication, meaning and purposeful activities and tasks.
       The last one, I learned about the example of lesson plan. In the lesson plan include are name of unit, number of lesson, unit aim(goal), objective, standard, pre-task, task cycle and Language focus.

       Hence, for this class I learned about three kinds for teaching English and how to make lesson plan. After this class, I knew more the information and understood how to teach and how to do the lesson plan.
